The objective of the prosthetic and orthotic track in the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering is to provide an opportunity for qualified students to pursue a career in the orthotics and prosthetics field as an engineer. This track will provide comprehensive training for students in life-science areas, including anatomy, kinesiology, pathology, and normal pathological gait. In addition, it will provide extensive engineering training in biomechanics, material science, and the fabrication and evaluation processes of orthotic and prosthetic devices, as well as research skills.
With the program embedded in the Biomedical Engineering MS program, it has the advantage of providing curricular content that will include a strong engineering base. Consequently, graduates from this track will be able effectively to incorporate new technological and scientific developments into the design and generation of future prosthetic and orthotic devices.
Applicants must have:
- A cumulative grade point average above 3.0 on a four point scale (i.e., a B) for the most recent 60 credit hours
- GRE scores higher than the minimal requirements (Verbal >142, and Quantitative >150).
*If an applicant lacks a baccalaureate degree in biomedical engineering or other engineering disciplines, applicants’ academic records will be reviewed individually and an admission recommendation will be made on a case-by-case basis.
