This year’s Heart Day Symposium was better than ever! On Friday, Feb. 14, the Biomedical Engineering Department presented the eighth annual Heart Day Symposium at FIU. The event was an opportunity for students and faculty from around the country to have discussions on research and challenges being studied in cardiovascular medicine.
The event commenced with Dr. Jessica Wagenseil from Washington University in St. Louis as keynote speaker presenting her seminar titled “Biomechanics of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms.” Afterwards, students and researchers had the opportunity to present their research related to cardiovascular medicine and health during the poster symposium, which was held alongside the Community Engagement Session with exhibits from FIU researchers and symposium sponsors.
Exhibits were presented by FIU’s HWCOM Cardiology Interest Group, FIU Esports, FIU Student Dietetics Association, FIU Diane Ramy Faulconer STAR Center, Cardiacoustics and Healthy Hearts!
To close the evening, a select group of students presented their cardiovascular research during Flash Talks! The evening’s award winners were Aasma Dahal for Best Poster Presentation, Erika Perez De Alejo for Poster Presentation Runner-Up, and Sophie Ashbrook for Best Oral Presentation!
