As senior Biomedical Engineering students at Florida International University, you have come to the end of an incredible journey. Your Senior Design Projects are a reflection of your efforts and your capstone undergraduate experience.

Your work is an illustration of the many skills you have sharpened during the course of this yearlong project. you have discovered new ways of thinking, designed and developed an engineering solution for a practical problem, and collaborated with your teammates to deliver innovative solutions. It is encouraging to see your accomplishments and to have witnessed your growth as students. As you embark on the next stage of your education and careers, keep the confidence that comes from having enhanced your knowledge, remain inquisitive and have the courage to achieve your dreams.

The BME Department Celebrated the Senior Design Expo & Competition – Fall 2021

On Thursday, December 2, students, alumni, faculty, and industry partners came together both in-person and online for the Fall 2021 Senior Design Expo and competition.Nine teams composed of senior undergraduate students showcased innovative projects they had been developing for the past two terms. All teams displayed posters and gave presentations during the expo. Most teams included working prototypes, computer simulations, and videos. Several industry sponsors, including Arthrex, Exactech, BetaBlue, Activoris, Bio Engineering Labs, and Tag3 funded the senior projects.

The Senior Design/Capstone course is a culminating design project required of all undergraduate biomedical engineering students. The event served to celebrate students’ academic achievements as they presented their final capstone projects to fellow students, faculty, parents, alumni, and industry partners. Each team of undergraduate seniors presented their capstone project, in which they designed and prototyped a product, device, process, or software system solutions designed to address unmet biomedical needs. Students demonstrated they are capable of overcoming challenges that can come across their professional careers.

The Biomedical Engineering Senior Design Expo was a tremendous success. The students were grateful and excited about the opportunity to present their projects in person and in front of their peers and instructors. According to the judges, it was very impressive to see the wide array of projects presented by each team. The posters exhibited the dedication, intelligence, and hard work that each team put into the research and development of their projects.

The event was a beautiful display of the many skills developed during the course of this yearlong project particularly, new ways of thinking, designing, and developing an engineering solution for a practical problem. It is encouraging to see their accomplishments and to have witnessed the growth of each student.
