Dr. Barry T. Katzen has been appointed to a dual role as Scholar Faculty at the rank of Professor and as Liaison for Clinical Innovations. In this capacity, he will collaborate with the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) and the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), to foster strategic partnerships, advance interdisciplinary research, and promote initiatives that integrate engineering with clinical practice, as well as accelerate the commercialization of new ideas, products and services.

His primary appointment will be within the Division of Interventional Radiology, in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, under the Clinical Scholar Track at HWCOM. He will also hold a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at CEC.

Dr. Katzen is widely recognized as a pioneer in angioplasty thrombolysis, with a particular focus on the treatment of aortic aneurysms (AAA, TAA) and peripheral aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and critical limb ischemia, carotid artery disease, renal vascular hypertension, and vascular malformations. He has also played a key role in the development and advancement of innovative therapies for a range of vascular diseases. Furthermore, Dr. Katzen has been at the forefront of developing new less invasive procedures and has published extensively in the scientific literature. He also serves on the editorial boards of numerous journals, is the founding editor of two journals in the field, and has authored and co-authored multiple textbooks.
