Future graduates of FIU’s Biomedical Engineering Department presented their Senior Design projects on Friday at the Engineering Center. All seven projects were sponsored by a major corporation or clinical organization in South Florida. This not only brings recognition and awareness to the department and surrounding professional community, but teaches the students how to work as a team with a prestigious community sponsor.
The event started with the student teams presenting each project individually. Every team was given 15 minutes to present their design followed by a 15 minute question and answer with a panel of judges from the industry. After every project design was presented the judges deliberated and decided which two teams would receive first and second place prizes.
This event symbolizes the culmination of a yearlong process in which the students planned, designed and implemented ideas for new instruments to be used in the biomedical engineering field.
