
Dr. Jianyi Zhang, Professor and Chair, Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the first guest speaker of Miami Heart ♥ Month Lecture Series
As part of the Wallace H. Coulter Foundations Seminars and the FIU Biomedical Department, Dr. Jianyi visited the university to talk about his research and experience in cardiovascular physiology and stem cell biology, myocardial metabolism in normal or ischemic conditions, hypertrophy and heart failure using large animal models. His seminar was part of the February Heart Month lectures.
Dr. Zhang who has been working extensively with human induced pluripotent stem cells, embryonic stem cell, cell lines for engineering functional cardiac tissues, and exploring their therapeutic potential in cardiovascular pathologies, also referred to the importance of heart diseases investigation.
Dr. Zhang was thrilled by the participation and interest of our students in his research and in further investigation that leads to help prevent and cure heart diseases.
