Two of our BME undergraduate students have been selected to participate in the prestigious MIT Summer Research Program. Seniors Karla Montejo and Giselle Valdes will spend 10 weeks in Cambridge, Massachusetts conducting research in their respective fields. It is a fully funded research program across several STEM departents at MIT. Karla will be working on machine vision development at the Center for Brains, Minds, and Machines, and Giselle will be looking at ribosome folding and function in the Biochemistry Department.

It is rare to see two students from the same school, especially from the same department, accepted into such a selective internship program. “This year there are roughly 30 of us, so it is really cool that FIU placed two students. Students should be encouraged to apply next year!”, says Karla.

Congratulations to Karla and Giselle on your accomplishments!
