Dr. Yun Qian appointed Instructional Lab Coordinator
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Yun Qian as Instructional Lab Coordinator of Biomedical Engineering at FIU.
Dr. Yun Qian joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Florida International University (FIU) in March, 2014. She received her Ph.D. degree in environmental science (analytical/environmental chemistry) from Nankai University, China, in 2003. She also holds a M.S. degree in environmental toxicology, as well as a B.Sc. degree in environmental biology from Nankai University. After graduation, she was awarded a research grant for young academics and scientists by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2004.
Prior to joining the department, Dr. Qian has been working on managing accredited testing laboratories for a number of years, including developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality manuals, and safety manuals in compliance with regulation and accreditation standards; coordinating implementation of projects; providing technical and safety training; operating and troubleshooting instrumentation; and conducting research in analytical and environmental chemistry. Her previous professional experience includes working as analytical chemist in Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), senior chemist in Department of Chemistry &Biochemistry at FIU, and research associate in Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC) at University of Florida (UF). She managed these laboratories in compliance with regulation and accreditation requirements, conducted QA/AC and management review, and developed technical documents for these laboratories. In addition, through conducting research, she published a number of peer reviewed papers, including a collaborative study published in Science.
Dr. Qian’s professional services include serving as a reviewer for Water Research, Water Resources Management, Water Resources Research, and Journal of Soils and Sediments. She also served as an instructor for workshops on analysis and instrumentation in environmental and agricultural applications held in Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, FIU and TREC, UF.
