Health Care Hero, distinguished lecturer, author and now inventor. Dr. Anuradha Godavarty has received her first United States Patent with the design of “Hand-held optical probe based imaging system with 3-D tracking facilities.”

In 2009, Dr. Godavarty and her team invented a device to aid in the detection of breast cancer. The first of its kind, this optical hand-held device is capable of 3-D tumor detection. They submitted their discovery on November 24, 2009, and have been awaiting the approval of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) ever since.

“There is no risk to the patient, since the technology employed is not radiative nor invasive. In addition, the design of the hand-held probe is such that the patient experiences no pain or discomfort from breast compression, as in x-ray mammography,” says Dr. Godavarty.
