On Friday, February 2nd, 2018, FIU BME graduate students presented their research in their respective fields. Twenty-four students, in both our Masters and Ph.D. programs, were judged on three different categories: content, display, and oral presentation based on their research.

We would like to congratulate first prize winner, iian Black, on his research titled “Recording from individual axons in teased spinal cord rootlets”, and second prize winner, Kevin Leiva, on his research titled “Assessing regions of reduced oxygenation in diabetic foot ulcers using near-infrared optical imaging”.

Also as part of Graduate Research Day and the Coulter Speaker Series, Nathalie Nunez, MDR/Vigilance Manager at Medtronic, and Monica Perez, Associate Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami presented lectures on their research and experiences as biomedical engineers.
